Qualitative findings indicate the presence of two distinct approaches within the university wide program. These align to instrumental and psychosocial mentoring labels identified in the literature. Programs in more homogenous colleges oriented their mentoring programs toward meeting protege-specific academic needs while those in more heterogeneous colleges oriented their mentoring toward a more socio-academic approach to helping proteges transition to the university.
